The Electrophoresis-Microplate

The Axor Biosystems Preparative-Electrophoresis-in-Microplate (PEM) Strips are made up of 8 independent Preparative-Electrophoresis Cells. 

The Cell — just 9mm square, with 96 cells per plate — performs 5 process steps without a single moving part or manual intervention. 

Steps performed within the electrophoresis cell:

1. Biosynthesis

Reaction mixture (for example, in vitro transcription and translation mix) and sample are loaded directly into the Input well of each electrophoresis cell. The reaction needs to be compatible with the fluorescent dye.

2. Separation

Reaction products are pre-concentrated and separated by their charge-to-mass ratios in the integral separation channel. The separation matrix and buffers are pre-loaded in the ready-to-use strip.

3. Molecular Weights

ML-based analysis delivers size information during the run — no separate instrument needed.

4. Quantitation

Internal standards embedded in each cell provide real-time quantification without extra reagents.

5. Purification

Migration is monitored by fluorescent real-time imaging and when targeted products reach a purification junction, they are extracted into side channels. Ready to be pipetted out on run completion.
